Roadside Buzz – Busted Plug Plaza ~ Columbia, SC
It’s called “Busted Plug Plaza,” and it’s four stories in height and weighs 675,000 pounds. This massive piece of art that purportedly can survive a direct hit by a tornado, was created by Columbia, SC based artist Blue Sky and was unveiled in 2001.
Although two other cities claim to have the largest Fire Hydrant /Plug, busted Plug is both bigger and heavier and thus firmly holds the title. It is located on Taylor St., between Marion and Bull Streets in the same parking lot (AgFirst Farm Credit Bank) as Blue Sky’s acclaimed “Tunnelvision.”
We stopped by to check it out on our trip to Columbia.

What the Fries Food Truck ~ Charlotte, NC
Despite the unfortunate moniker “French” Fries, the Fry (aka French-Fried Potatoes, Finger Chips, Steak Fries, or Chips) is about as American as baseball and apple pie.
Simple, cheap, salty (or not), crispy (or not), wedged or straight cut, seasoned (or not), dipped, topped, smothered. There is no end to the ways that fries can be prepared; And, there are endless debates on what constitutes “Good” fries.
