The annual South Carolina AG+Art Tour hits Lancaster County June 17 & 18 for its 5th year. Ag+Art is the nation’s largest free, self-guided farm tour featuring local artisans and farmers markets and throughout the month of June encourages visitors to see first-hand where their food comes from and to watch artists in action.
We visited with Lancaster County Tour organizer Cherry Doster to find out more about this years activities.
It’s the World’s Smallest Police Station…or at least it used to be. We stopped in at the town of Ridgeway, South Carolina just off of US 21 to visit a police station that is little bigger than a bathroom stall.
The station first opened its doors in 1940 and was last used for law enforcement purposes in 1990. Today it serves as a visitor kiosk, but still proudly displays a sign recognizing its significance as a micro office for police. Just beside the old station is the new police station which opened its doors in 1990. While the new station is larger (about 2x as large as its predecessor), it too is a testament to tiny work spaces.

The Columbia, South Carolina First Responders Remembrance Memorial located at 1101 Lincoln Street is dedicated to all SC Midlands firefighters, law enforcement, ems, and branches of the military who have lost their lives in the line of duty since 9/11.
The memorial is constructed of two granite towers as well as two beams from tower the World Trade Center, remembering September 11, 2001.
Located adjacent to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, the memorial is located within walking distance of the South Carolina State House and other area attractions. It’s a must-see on your trip to Columbia.

Just outside of Hildebran, North Carolina on Henry River Road, about 1/2 mile from exit 119 near Hickory sits the abandoned Henry River Mill Village. The community isn’t a recent victim of economic woes, but a remnant of a bygone error. It is also the site chosen to serve as the deprecated District 12 in the movie The Hunger Games.
