July 29, 1862 ~ Confederate Spy Belle Boyd Caught
Isabella Maria Boyd best known as Belle Boyd, was a Confederate spy in the American Civil War.
Boyd was born on May 9, 1844, in Martinsburg, Virginia (now part of West Virginia)
Her idyllic southern life was sidelined when the U.S. Civil War broke out, so the resourceful southern belle used her panache and charm to as her weapon of choice to support the Southern cause.
July 28 ~ Buffalo Soldier Day
Buffalo Soldiers Day is observed annually on July 28th. This day commemorates the formation in 1866 of the first regular Army regiments comprising African-American soldiers.
July 27, 1940 ~ Bugs Bunny’s Feature Film Debut
July 27, 1940 – the world’s most popular rabbit made his debut in the animated short A Wild Hare.
Featuring Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny, as hunter and tormentor, a Wild Hare was the first cartoon with Mel Blanc voicing the wascally wabbit; and the first in which Bugs uses his catchphrase, “What’s up, Doc?”
