York Chester Brewing ~ Belmont, NC

One small business is smaller than most. In fact, it is tiny by comparison to similar concepts throughout the Carolina’s.  The York Chester Brewing Company, founded by Jarvis Roberts and his wife Julia, is a nano brewery that opened it’s tiny taproom in one small corner of the Riverside Complex at 1500 Riverside Drive #250 in late 2016.

Brewery 85 ~ Greenville, SC

Since South Carolina loosened up the rules for Breweries in the Palmetto State, Greenville, in the Upstate area has witnessed a renaissance in craft beer.  We took a road trip along I-85 to checkout the areas craft beer scene and get a little taste of what’s to come.

Founded in 2014, Brewery 85 is a craft Microbrewery in Greenville that specializes in what they call “Marrying Southern culture with Craft Beer Spirit.”

We made our trek to the Brewery 85 taproom / brewery at 6 Whitlee just one week after the Clemson Tigers upset the Alabama Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff National Championship.  We should have known that the folks in Greenville, located just 45-minutes from Clemson University, would still be celebrating.  The whole town was in party mode and parking was a challenge.

Roadside Buzz ~ World’s Smallest Police Station ~ Ridgeway, SC

It’s the World’s Smallest Police Station…or at least it used to be. We stopped in at the town of Ridgeway, South Carolina just off of US 21 to visit a police station that is little bigger than a bathroom stall.

The station first opened its doors in 1940 and was last used for law enforcement purposes in 1990. Today it serves as a visitor kiosk, but still proudly displays a sign recognizing its significance as a micro office for police. Just beside the old station is the new police station which opened its doors in 1990. While the new station is larger (about 2x as large as its predecessor), it too is a testament to tiny work spaces.
